We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Finance/Accounts Manager to join our reputable organization in the Oil & Gas industry. This position plays a pivotal role in the financial health and performance of our company. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing financial planning, budgeting, accounting, reporting, and compliance activities to ensure financial sustainability and effective resource allocation across all projects and operations.
Position Summary
As the Finance/Accounts Manager, you will provide strategic financial guidance, manage day-to-day accounting processes, oversee cash flow planning, and ensure compliance with applicable tax laws, regulatory standards, and internal policies. You will also be expected to proactively identify and manage financial risks, while offering data-driven insights to support executive decision-making.
This role is particularly well-suited for a seasoned finance professional who thrives in high-pressure environments and has demonstrable experience working within the upstream segment of the oil and gas industry. A strong background in financial reporting, audit readiness, capital expenditure analysis, and financial forecasting is essential for success in this position.
Key Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will take ownership of the following duties and responsibilities:
Strategic Budgeting & Financial Planning:
Lead and coordinate the preparation of annual budgets in line with corporate objectives. Monitor, analyze, and report on budget variances, while recommending strategic adjustments to optimize financial performance.
Project & Operational Financial Reporting:
Prepare and present comprehensive financial reports that detail project performance metrics, capital expenditure (CapEx) summaries, and cash flow forecasts. Ensure data accuracy and timely delivery of reports to senior leadership.
Cash Flow and Working Capital Management:
Oversee the company’s cash flow position, ensuring sufficient liquidity for ongoing operations. Manage accounts receivable and payable, monitor vendor settlements, and implement effective strategies for debt recovery.
Regulatory Compliance and Internal Controls:
Ensure strict adherence to local tax regulations, financial laws, and international accounting standards. Develop and enforce internal controls to safeguard company assets and financial data integrity.
Audit Coordination and Resolution:
Prepare for internal and external audits by ensuring financial records are up-to-date and audit-ready. Address and resolve any issues raised by auditors in a timely and professional manner.
Tax Management:
Oversee the preparation and filing of corporate taxes in compliance with Nigerian tax laws and statutory obligations. Ensure accurate documentation and timely remittance of VAT, WHT, PAYE, and other relevant tax liabilities.
Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
Identify financial risks across various operations and propose risk mitigation strategies. Maintain contingency plans and advise management on fiscal best practices to safeguard against potential financial exposures.
Leadership and Team Collaboration:
Provide effective leadership to finance and accounting personnel. Foster a culture of performance, accountability, and continuous improvement within the finance department.
Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications and experience criteria:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or any related field from a recognized institution.
A professional accounting certification such as ICAN, ACCA, or CFA is highly desirable and will be a strong advantage.
A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in finance or accounting roles, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
Proven industry experience in the upstream oil and gas sector is mandatory.
Proficiency in accounting systems and financial management software, such as SAP, is required.
Strong command of Microsoft Excel, including advanced spreadsheet and financial modeling skills.
Solid understanding of Nigerian tax regulations, corporate finance, budgeting methodologies, and IFRS/GAAP compliance.
Demonstrated ability to manage cross-functional teams, meet tight deadlines, and communicate financial information to both finance and non-finance stakeholders
